During the week of July 31-August 4, 11 of our Explorers attended the State Explorer Conference and Competition at Lewis University. Throughout the week teams competed in multiple team competitions as well as individual competitions. Over 200 Explorers from throughout Illinois, representing 26 Departments were in attendance. The teams competed in responding to domestic disputes, building search, court room testimony, crime scene response, FATS (Firearms Training Simulator), Felony suspect arrests, Hogans Alley, Hostage Negotiations, Incident Command, Obstacle Course, Field Sobriety Testing, Tactical EMS, Traffic Accident Investigations, Live Firearms, EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Course), Police Bicycle Course, Rapid Deployment, completed a PT test, played in a volleyball tournament, and took a written exam. It was a busy, fun and rewarding week! We are proud of our Explorers who participated and were awarded the following trophies. Sgt. Haley Sohan was chosen as Explorer of the year! Haley also placed 1st in the Firearms Training Simulator target shoot, and 4th in the live fire at the range. Explorer Cpl. Alicia Headrick was the top score for females on the written police exam. Explorer Kade Ohlendorf placed 1st in the live firearms for males Explorer Matt Anderson placed 3rd in the live firearms, and 4th in the EVOC course. Sgt. Tyler Post placed 4th in live firearms. The team of Lt. Dave Cronin, Sgt. Haley Sohan, and Cpl. Alicia Headrick combined with 4 Joliet Police Explorers received 2nd place for rapid deployment. Sgt. Post, Lt. Cronin, Sgt. Sohan, and Cpl. Headrick placed 1st in Firearms training simulator scenarios and 2nd in Tactical EMS as well. |
